TAMPA, FLA -
It's that time of the year again - gator mating season! Alligators have been playing the dating game this time of year for about 30 million years*, and for most of those years there were few if any gated communities full of beige stucco houses. So I don't know what alligators did during mating season for the first 29.99999 million years of their existence, but nowadays it seems that the giant reptiles go knocking on doors in their quest for a mate.
They say that alligators get all crazy and unpredictable this time of year (as opposed to the rest of the year when you can safely predict that they will try to eat you). So around April or May each year you hear about alligators doing crazy things like walking into peoples houses without calling first, stealing schoolbuses, and buying frivolous things like ebony party trays that they don't really need.
The latest case of gators gone wild involves an 11 foot male who visited Belinda Donaldson at her house in Westwood Lakes, presumably to see if Belinda had any single friends who happened to be alligators. Unfortunately for the 500 pound gator, Belinda does not like giant tooth filled reptiles hanging around her house. Belinda called authorities, who called Mike Fagan who is the owner and proprietor of M&D Gator Products, a Dade City company. Fagan managed to get he big fella into the back of his pickup.
The gator's future is not looking too rosy, and soon the big guy will be turned into an assortment of "gator products".
*This refers to alligators as a species. An individual alligator's life span is not 30 million years
