There is a big Flapjack Festival going on in Dade City this weekend. This morning between eight and ten o'clock they served all attendees free flapjacks. (Flapjacks are very similar to pancakes.) There are and were several big events throughout the big two day extravaganza; today at three there was a flapjack eating contest. Luckilly, no fatalities were reported. The big grand finale is tomorrow at one o'clock - a big family magic show, guaranteed to thrill and amaze all.
Now this "Dade City Flapjack Festival" seems like good old fashioned American Fun & Entertainment, right? Well, it may be for some, but it seems that the festival has bought bitter memories back to some long-time FLA residents. It turns out that the Dade City Flapjack Festival is a divisive, controversial event. I think the following message found on the tbo.com comments section that accompanies the online announcement sums it all up:

I remember a time when the Flapjack Festival was a Land O Lakes
festival sponsored by Land O Lakes butter.
I
opposed moving the festival to Dade City and will not be attending
until it's brought back home to Land O Lakes. I implore all residents
of Land O Lakes and the surrounding communities to avoid the festival
this year in support of your local merchants.
So there you have it. Land O Lakes residents, keep in mind the words of "smmarkfan" before loading the kids into the minivan to attend the "family magic show". You may very well be participating in a thinly vieled anti-butter event, and taking food from the mouths of Land O Lakes' local merchants' children.
