TAMPA FLA -
In a move that in no way is intended to minimize or diffuse the Tampa Giant Confederate Flag Controversy, the local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans took down the Giant Confederate Flag that was 50 feet long and 30 feet tall, only to replace it with a new Gianter Confederate Flag that is 60 feet long and 30 feet tall.
The smaller Giant Confederate Flag, which was reportedly made in China, was scheduled to be taken down today at 4PM, then cut into pieces to be sold to pay for the Gianter Confederate Flag and surrounding "Memorial Park".
Marion Lambert is the owner of the property upon which "Memorial Park" sits, and also a spokesman for the local
chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The property is located east of Tampa, where I-75 crosses US 92. The famous Big Giant Confederate Flag of Tampa is mounted to a Big Giant Flagpole, which is 130 ft tall. That is about 20 times taller than a real tall person, 4 times taller than a real tall 3 story house, and twice as tall as 65 foot flag pole. It is as tall as 260 one dollar bills, laid end to end. If 25 of the 130 foot tall flagpoles were stacked on top of each other, an athletic young man could shimmy up them, and upon reaching the top, could see the Great Wall of China and the Amazon River, and would be in danger of banging his head on the moon. The thing is huge.
So anyhows, Marion Lambert is not giving in to the anti-confederate flag people, who would really really really like to not have a Giant Confederate Flag flying over Tampa. Marion says "My hunch, my gut feeling is it's probably going to stay up because it's just a beautiful sight."
