The Hillsborough County Animal Services Department has announced that due to budget cuts, the department will no longer be picking up dead animals on, or by the side of, the road. Yes, folks, the days of free roadkill pickup are over. The spokesperson for the department has suggested that communities organize volunteer weekly or monthly 'roadkill cleanup events', depending on the volume of dead animals in the vicinity. The spokesperson also said that participants in such events should wear hats and use sunscreen, as excess sunshine has been shown to be hazaradous to humans.
