On Saturday afternoon Lorenzo Earl Knight, 22, allegedly broke into a truck that was parked at the International Mall of Tampa, and stole a digital camera. Then he went on to try and break into another truck. The owner of the truck spotted Lorenzo, so Lorenzo took off running. At this point LE Knight broke one of the cardinal rules for not getting caught when committing a crime: don't leave anything behind. Police reports show that Lorenzo Knight left a screw driver that he had been using behind, along with a shoe. (A shoe? Are we sure about that? Yup, that's what it says.)
So anyway, the owner of the second truck and a friend took off after Lorenzo, chasing him to a nearby construction site. Whether Lorenzo was shoeless on one foot is not clear at this point. At this point, Lorenzo broke another cardinal rule, this one more general and not just a cardinal rule for criminals: if you're being chased, don't try to hide in one of those little portable toilet thingies.
Lorenzo, apparently not knowledgeable about the basic mechanics of little portable toilet thingies, figured it looked like a good place to hide. Or maybe he just really had to go. But anyway, the two guys chasing Lorenzo did understand the mechanics of portable toilet thingies, and just tipped the thing over so the door couldn't be opened.
The cops came and apprehended Lorenzo, who was all covered in poop. Apparently they cleaned him up pretty good at some point, because he looks clean and refreshed in his mugshot. The whole shoe thing remains a mystery.
