Last night a City-of-Tampa-Approved
kickball game at Julian B. Lane Riverfront
Park got totally bloody
violent out of control. Reports are that about a hundred people, kickball
players and spectators, were having a huge brawl in the parking lot
and adjacent areas.
At about 7:30 police were called
to the scene to break up the riot.
Upon arrival, the officers
found a large group of spectators (fight spectators, who may or may
not have been kickball spectators) circled around a large group of people
fighting.
Police had trouble getting
through the crowd of fight spectators. It seems that the fight spectators
were more interested in seeing the fight to the finish without outside
intervention, especially from “The Man”.
The police finally broke through
the fight spectator crowd to the fight participator crowd. There they
found dozens of girls with torn clothes, roughed up looking faces, and
hair weaves half ripped off of their heads. The parking lot was covered
with fully ripped of hair weaves, as well as various pieces of torn
and bloody clothing, beer cans, little empty crack baggies, cigarette
butts, and the occasional odd used syringe.
As the police attempted to
take control of the riot, the fight participants slipped into the crowd
and blended in with the spectators. Police were unable to pick out the
fighters from the spectators, and the spectators definitely were not
helping.
One person that they could
identify was the kickball game organizer, and told her to end the game. The
organizer immediately started ranting and raving that they had every
right in the world to play kickball in the park, and even called the
police bad names.
Just as the police were ready
to hit the organizer with multiple taser darts, the fight broke out
again, this time across the street. And this time there were big sticks
involved.
Police went through the same
routine, trying to break through the newly formed crowd of spectators,
and finally said “screw this” and left without making a single arrest.
It seems that kickball games
are getting dangerous. There is an alarming trend - rising arrests for drugs, public drinking, prostitution, gambling, littering, and assault at Tampa-Sanctioned kickball games. Authorities believe that the upward trend in arrests at kickball games is a direct result of recent crackdowns on cock fights and dog fights.
