Ostrich farmers all over the state have been watching the Florida State Legislature with fingernail threatening anxiety this session. On Friday, May 2nd, 2008 the Ostrich Farmers of Florida collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
Once again, the tax exemption on ostrich feed is intact.
Which is fortunate for all of us, because without food, the ostriches would die.
Soon, after we ate the ostriches that died, there would be no more yummy ostrich burgers, ostrich tenderloin steaks, ostrich nuggets, buffalo style ostrich wings, ostrich noodle soup, deep fried ostriches, ostrich brulee, ostrich fritters, ostrich roast with potatoes, ostrich egg giant omelettes, jars of pickled ostrich eggs, or any of those ostrich based food products that we all love and, let's face it, take for granted.
In related news, the state budget passed Friday included almost $1 billion in cuts to health care and education, and the state song controversy/dilemna was largely rectified through a series of bills and laws created during record-breaking marathon legislative sessions.
